Los PonchoTones is a trio formed in the Hi-desert Joshua Tree area. The group consists of Josh Sonntag (Guitar, Vocals), Jon Ossman (Bass, Vocals), and Denny Weston Jr (Drums, Vocals). Their sound, often described as "greasy tumbleweed,” merges swampy New Orleans rhythms with dusty desert tones, often adding threads of blues, rock, soul, singer songwriter, psychedelia, electro and Appalachian textures through improvisation.
Each member, together and separately, have recorded or toured with Santana, The Kooks, Draco Rosa, Paula Cole, KT Tunstall, Chris Botti, Gustavo Santaolla, Goldfrapp, Robert Palmer, Marc Cohn, Michael Kiwanuka, Alex Syntek and many more.
As a section, they regularly accompany artists as backing musicians in the spirit of Muscle Shoal's The Swampers, Los Angeles Studio's Wrecking Crew, Motown's The Funk Brothers and Bob Dylan's The Band
In 2025, Los PonchoTones performed on the main stage at the renowned Joshua Tree Music Festival. They won The Joshua's 2023 “Outstanding Rock Group” and "Outstanding Instrumental Group" award in 2022.
